Welcome to the New JHA Guesthouse in Gashora, Rwanda

Journey House Actions (JHA) is excited to announce the grand opening of its brand-new guesthouse (“Ibumuntu Resort”) on the beautiful shores of Lake Mirayi in rural Gashora, Rwanda. More than just a place to stay, the guesthouse (funded by the generous donors of AFJHAR) provides visitors with an unforgettable opportunity to connect with the local community and directly experience the transformative impact of JHA’s work with children, women, and families.

Experience Rwanda up close while supporting community-led change. The JHA Guesthouse welcomes school service trips, travel groups, volunteers, and individual travelers. By staying with our friends in Gashora, you’ll immerse yourself in local culture—and help JHA become more self-sufficient.

Why Your Stay Matters

Revenue from the guesthouse directly supports JHA’s programs, reducing reliance on external funding and strengthening long-term sustainability for the community, including:

  • Early childhood education
  • Women’s empowerment
  • Agriculture and nutrition
  • Workforce development
  • Basic human needs

What to Expect

Accommodations are modest by Western standards but thoughtfully prepared for comfort with:

  • Private bathrooms and showers
  • Warm water for showers
  • Locally sourced, home-style meals

Come learn, serve, and share meals with neighbors who are building a brighter future—one stay at a time.

Why should I go?

Journey House Actions is more than just an organization—it’s an inspiring example of community-driven change. By visiting, you’ll witness transformation firsthand and see the results of your contributions in action. Along the way, you’ll experience genuine Rwandan hospitality, traditions, and daily life while being inspired by the amazing people of Gashora.

What impact will I have?

While you may join in a service project or two during your visit, the deepest impact comes from the personal connections you build. Sharing meals, stories, and daily life brings hope to the people of Gashora, and those relationships will continue to shape both you and the community long after your stay.

What will I do when I’m there?

Every visit is unique. We’ll work with you to plan a project ahead of time if you wish, but local needs, weather, or available resources may lead to changes. Flexibility is key—sometimes the most valuable moments come from adapting to the unexpected.

  • If you stay for a week or less: you will have the opportunity to share meals, visit local and regional interest sites (Akagera National Park, silverback gorilla tour, genocide museum), participate in recreational activities (hiking, biking, kayaking, birdwatching), assist with school meals, and help with small community projects (home refurbishing, community clean-ups).
  • If you stay longer: your days will have a slower rhythm, giving you time to participate in broader community activities and build deeper relationships.

Please let us know your special interests or skills ahead of time so our team can coordinate meaningful opportunities for you while in Gashora. And remember: if you need rest, it’s okay to step back-care helps you give more fully.

What will it cost?

JHA doesn’t charge a fixed room and board rate for stays at the guesthouse. Instead, the following donation amounts are suggested to help cover JHA’s costs and sustain the guesthouse:

Room donation: $50 USD per room per night
Food donation: $15 USD per person per day (three meals per day)

Your generosity makes it possible for JHA to continue welcoming visitors while building local sustainability. Your donations can be made through the AFJHAR website at DONATE HERE.
